WITH 85+ LODI WINERIES, Experience A Unique Vino Adventure In Lodi Wine Country

Lodi is a wine lover’s paradise, hosting 85 wineries that offer an amazing variety of tasting opportunities. Located in the heart of California’s Central Valley, Lodi Wine Country has become a popular destination for those who appreciate exquisite wines and spectacular scenery. Visitors to the area can explore the vineyards, learn more about winemaking processes and gain insight into local history from knowledgeable staff at each of these distinctive establishments.

From old-vine zinfandel to tempranillo and petite sirah, Lodi offers a wide selection of exceptional reds as well as crisp whites like sauvignon blanc and chardonnay. Some wineries also feature special releases such as late harvest dessert wines or port-style libations. The region also features several renowned sparkling wines made using traditional European methods.

Discover the Magic of Lodi's Vines

Talking about Lodi wineries is difficult without bringing up the region’s history and explaining how the wine is made. Since the middle of the 1800s, Lodi has been producing wine on more than 110,000 acres, making it California’s largest appellation. Lodi is well-known for its robust Zinfandels, but it is also the birthplace of all of California’s top grapes, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, and Sauvignon Blanc. Due to the seven (7) various soil types in the area, Lodi now produces over 100 different varietals of wine and has one of the most varied wine grape producing locations in the United States.

Lodi Wine Events

Most weekends, Lodi vineyards host special events where guests can sample their award-winning wines. There are lots of enjoyable and interesting things to do in Lodi Wine Country, regardless of your level of wine expertise or familiarity with the grape.

So why are you still waiting? Our 85+ wineries are ready and waiting! Discover how to schedule a visit to one of these wineries.

This modest white winery’s motto is “acquiesce,” and they strive to surrender to nature, yield to the vineyard, and acquiesce to the grapes. They think they can make the highest-quality wines in this way. Only top-quality, fresh, light, and dazzling white and rosé wines are available at Acquiesce. The grapes for Acquiesce are hand-picked, whole-cluster pressed, and the vines are only sparingly irrigated. The wines aren’t given any aging. They take this action because they believe it is crucial for you to be able to taste the fruit’s quality.

The meaning of the Berghold family name, “vineyard worker,” has been traced back to Austria in the 1600s. The current Berghold family’s ardent pursuit to create only the best estate wines and wine grapes may be explained by this genealogical fact.

Since 1986, the Berghold Family has been cultivating wine grapes in Lodi. The estate now consists of three adjacent vineyards that together cover 85 acres and grow Syrah, Viognier, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Zinfandel. The family has been providing premium wineries, including some in the counties of Napa and Sonoma, with wine grapes.

The Bergholds decided it was time to bottle and market wine under the Berghold label after nearly ten years of producing and selling their grapes to other wineries. Berghold Vineyards’ Syrah was created in 1999, while its Viognier was created in 2000. Today, the winery focuses on producing Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Viognier. It also makes Merlot, Zinfandel, and a Cabernet-Syrah hybrid. All wines are estate vintages, terroir-driven, and crafted utilizing artisanal processes and cutting-edge technology under the supervision of the Bergholds’ son and winemaker, Miles.

Joe and Kay Berghold, owners of a Victorian winery, have a passion for collecting. The couple spent nearly 20 years collecting and storing American Victorian era (1860–19000) antiques with the intention of creating an architecturally distinctive winery and tasting room representative of the era of the pieces in their collection—and the same era of the beginning of Lodi wine history. Fortunately, Berghold Vineyards and Winery has made that ambition a reality.

Dancing Fox Winery & Brewery

The Dancing Fox is tucked away in a century-old brick structure in the center of our charming city. It is a family-run company that combines the three loves of beer, wine, and bread. The Lewis family estate vineyards are used to produce the wines, and the natural yeast from these grapes is used in the baking of the loaves. The breads are made by hand using largely organic grains and baked in a Spanish wood-fired oven before being sold fresh every day. Small-batch, handcrafted beers are produced, ranging from rich stouts to light pilsners and, of course, fantastic IPAs.

The winery offers a huge selection of award-winning wines, including sweet, dry, and sparkling varieties. A fantastic tasting experience is created by a variety of distinctive combinations. The restaurant serves homemade lunch and dinner dishes created using local, fresh ingredients. When paired with wine or a pint of beer, the wood-fired pizza is unmatched. Enjoy the outstanding Sunday breakfast, please.

Bokisch Vineyards Lodi CA

Due of Markus’s familial ancestry, Liz and Markus Bokisch love Spain. As the proportion of wine to water matched his age, Markus spent many a summer as a child watching his water glass turn from a light shade of pink to eventually a dark red. Markus got his start in the wine business at Joseph Phelps Vineyards as their viticulturist from 1989 to 1992 after receiving his degree from UC Davis. Shortly after getting married, the newlyweds were lured to move to Catalonia by the allure of Spain, where they found inspiration for cultivating and making Spanish varietal wines in California.

In 1995, not long after they had returned to the Napa Valley, they bought their first plot of vineyard land in Lodi’s Clements Hills. Lodi: why? While working at Joseph Phelps, Markus had gotten to know Lodi while investigating old vine Rhone varieties like Carignane, Mourvedre, and Grenache.

They relocated to Lodi in 1998, and in 1999 they planted their first block of Albarino, Tempranillo, and Graciano Spanish Varietals. They kept experimenting with new Iberian grape varieties, and now they also have Garnacha Blanca, Garnacha Tinta, and Monastrell in their wine lineup. Their winery produces 2,000 cases in total. They have established a novel wine club called “Salut!” that specializes on eating Spanish cuisine matched with Spanish wines. In addition to managing 1,000 acres of wine grapes that are 100% Certified Green under the Lodi Rules Program for Sustainable Winegrowing, Markus and Liz are committed to sustainable farming.

CELLAR DOOR BY MICHAEL DAVID WINERY

Since their Great Great Grandfather Andrew Harshner and his wife Lucille homesteaded 160 acres close to the town of Lodi in the 1860s, the Phillips family has been engaged in farming. A natural affinity for grape growing developed swiftly in the area, and by the turn of the past century, 25% of California’s grape land was in Lodi. Many of the state’s pioneering wineries closed down a generation later.

The Phillips’ farms, which were initially focused on vegetables, eventually expanded to include a variety of fruits, as well as fifteen different wine varietals that were delivered throughout the nation during Prohibition with instructions on “how not to have the grapes turn into wine.” As a result, Lodi growers benefited from Prohibition since families all over the country continued to drink wine with meals by ordering these grapes and “juice” to be bottled at home.

The fifth generation of growers in Lodi now is Michael and David Phillips, and things are shifting. There is plenty of room for exploration and invention with 650 acres of excellent wine vines. The Mokelumne River, which transports crystal-clear water from the Sierra Nevada Mountains and deposits minerals into the rich soils upon which the grapes flourish, irrigates the vineyards. Michael David Winery attempts to use only natural methods, including integrated pest management, beneficial insects for pest control, trellising, leaf-pulling, and naturally occurring mined sulfur for mildew treatment, even if it is not certified organic.

CAMPUS OAKS/GNEKOW FAMILY WINERY

The Gnekow Family Winery (pronounced “nee-ko”) was established on the basis of two fundamental tenets: first, manufacture fine wines of excellent value using both Old and New World winemaking methods on the grapes from our unique region, and second, make exciting and enjoyable wines!

Our cutting-edge winery is situated in Collegeville, California, not far from Mondavi-Woodbridge, amid the undulating hills between San Francisco and Yosemite, about an hour from the Napa Valley. Since its first harvest in 1997, our signature wine, the Campus Oaks “Old Vine” Zinfandel, which is carefully chosen from our 80+ year old vines, has routinely garnered Gold Medals. We launched our Honor Series in 2004 and promote the advancement of our premium Old Vine Zinfandels to higher-caliber, award-winning levels.
We are proud of the wines we make, the area we represent, and the people that work with us at Gnekow Family Winery to provide “Great Wines at Great Prices.” Our goal is to develop wines that are of the highest caliber while still being affordable, approachable, intriguing, and professional in every way.

LVVR SPARKLING CELLARS

Winemaker Eric Donaldson moved to Lodi, California after traveling the country to learn and perfect his craft. LVVR started out as a modest dazzling project for the Vizcarra sisters and has subsequently expanded into a much bigger project.

At Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, Eric received his degree. He started his career in the Ohio wine sector after graduating, spending the first few years in a few wineries near Cincinnati. Eric’s early years were crucial to his ability to fully comprehend the winery laboratory and cellar. After leaving the Cincinnati region, he continued working in a winery close to Cleveland.

Ultimately, Eric came to the conclusion that it would be wise to extend his perspective and discover what other viticultural regions had to offer. This was another another learning opportunity all by itself. He broadened his expertise by learning a range of methods and styles. Eric’s next stop after Sonoma County was New Mexico. Working with desert grapes gave him insight into where he will end up next. In New Mexico, Eric handled a lot of sparkling wine. The experience gave me a lot of knowledge about hotter climates and how they affect sparkling wines.

Here in Lodi, California, Eric will make his last trip. He chose Lodi because of its milder weather and affordable startup costs. Prior to founding EMD Winemaking, Eric worked at a sizable winery, where he once more learned a plethora of information about new tools and techniques.

The UC Davis Extension Viticulture and Enology Program is another program that Eric has finished.

HERITAGE OAK WINERY

At Heritage Oak, the land and the fruit are the main priorities. Tom Hoffman, a winemaker and grape farmer, uses a style that emphasizes varietal characteristics while preserving the grapes’ inherent fruit tastes. There are many different types of red table wines made, including Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo, Syrah, and Carignane.

On 106 acres, Heritage Oak is tucked up against the Mokelumne River along a lonely part of Woodbridge Road. Before walking about 3/4 miles to a remote private beach for a lunch, customers stop by the tasting room. Kayakers can access the river for both taking in and launching. Family, laughter, and love. They add these three components in equal amounts to each bottle of Harney Lane wine. They painstakingly create small batches of handcrafted wines that showcase the best flavors that Lodi Wine Country has to offer by blending them with delectable estate-grown fruit.

Long before it was customary to go wine tasting, their ancestors established their first vineyard along remote Harney Lane, just east of Lodi, in 1907. The family home was eventually constructed, and it would serve as a living memorial to the lives of five generations of grape growers dedicated to honing their farming techniques.

Their family’s guiding principle is still shouted from the rooftop of that first homestead: “Whatever you decide to accomplish in life, do it to the best of your ability.” That is how they have conducted farming for many years, and it is also how they produce their wines today.

LANGETWINS WINERY

Farmers for several generations. Our top objective has always been to use wine to introduce you to the region.

The area we still farm today is where Brad and Randall Lange, twins and fourth-generation Lodi winegrape growers, grew up and reared their families. Our foundation and the principles we follow every day are shaped by their reverence for the land and enthusiasm for keeping it preserved for future generations. The fifth generation joined the business in 2005 and established a lifelong commitment to the family business, taking on roles in both the viticulture and winery departments. We constructed the winery at this time as part of a generational decision to maintain the viability of our farm, surrounding communities, and the agricultural way of life.

We are fourth generation farmers and understand that excellent wine begins in the vineyard. Our viticulture choices within the Lodi and Clarksburg Appellations are guided by this philosophy, our emphasis on sustainability, and our experience with our vineyards. Since every vintage is different, we are aware that giving each block individual attention results in the best wine grapes being produced each year. Each bottle of wine reflects our love for the farm and family because every member of our family is committed to running our winery and vineyards.

We’re excited to share our wines with you. Stop by and sample some classic grapes like Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, or try Montepulciano or Teroldego if you’re feeling daring.

Make a reservation for your upcoming wine tasting.

Jeremy Wine Co Lockeford

Come and see us in our welcoming tasting room in the heart of Lodi. The early 1900s structure is one of a kind and features original wood floors and bright open windows. The tavern, which dates to the middle of the nineteenth century, has a mysterious past. It originated from a small Wyoming saloon, and if it could talk, we’re sure it would have fascinating tales to tell. So put your foot up on the brass footrest, sample a few of our wines, and come up with a tale of your own to tell.

Of course, crafting excellent wines is our main priority, but we also sell a range of jewelry and home goods that Choral has personally chosen. For any occasion—holidays, birthdays, etc.—they make wonderful presents!

ST. AMANT WINERY

Tim and Barbara Spencer established the modest, family-run winery St. Amant in 1979. In Lodi, California, they take great delight in creating handcrafted wines of the highest caliber. They work hard to produce wonderful, fruit-forward wines that pair well with food and they passionately believe that wine is first and foremost a beverage of pleasure that is best enjoyed with loved ones.

In addition to California’s own Old Vine Zinfandel, St. Amant concentrates on Mediterranean grapes to create exceptional wines from Portuguese, Spanish, and Italian varietals. They diligently concentrate on low yields with concentrated fruit tastes since they fervently believe that all outstanding wines are created on the vineyard. Their winemaking employs straightforward, manual processes that are aimed to bring forth the best in each vineyard site. We work hard to make wonderful, well-balanced wines that customers enjoy drinking.

The wines are the main attraction in St. Amant. On the east side of Lodi, they are housed in a vintage cooperative winery from the period following Prohibition. Just nice wine, nothing special about it!

STONUM VINEYARDS

Winemakers Mike and Kathy Stonum follow a straightforward ethos. Their method is labor-intensive and small batch, similar to the oldest wineries in Europe. Only premium grapes from their own vineyard and a select few additional vineyards that are personally known to them and are managed in their manner are used by Stonum. There is little intervention and gentle handling of the grapes. The goal of Stonum is to preserve the fruit’s harmony and integrity while capturing the rich nuances and complexity. Their wines will always accurately reflect the terroir in which they were produced.

JESSIE’S GROVE WINERY

With only 27 in his pocket, Joseph Spenker landed in Stockton in 1868. Ten years later, including the ranch now known as Jessie’s Grove, he had over 1500 acres of some of the nicest land in the Central Valley. He met Anna Schlieman, a stunning girl, at a Stockton wedding in 1870 and got married to her the following day. Otto and Jessie, their two children, were raised in the house that Joseph built for his family in 1906. In 1888, Joseph established his first vineyard, and throughout the years, he added more acres. Some of our most cherished wines are produced by many of these vines, which are still in use today.

Jessie vetoed any and all plans to alter the Oak Grove in the late 1940s and early 1950s. The magnificent Christian Lady passed away in 1952 after living through two world wars, witnessing women obtain the right to vote, lending a helpful hand, and running three sizable ranches. Jessie had reached the age of 77. Jessie modeled her life after her father’s honorable example. Jessie was a genuine San Joaquin Valley pioneer woman.

The 1870s structure that houses the wine tasting facility on Turner Road had its outside painstakingly conserved while inside structural improvements were done as needed. Other noteworthy structures include a 1905 two-story house and an 1870 barn in the oak grove where our museum is located. The authentic historic setting has been preserved by not adding any new structures.

They recently refurbished and established a second tasting area at Olde Ice House Cellars in Downtown Lodi in addition to the winery on Turner Rd.

RIPKEN VINEYARDS & WINERY

The Ripken family views themselves as an independent, artisan “barnista” winery that is electrifying, varied, unusual, esoteric, even outlandish, but never monotonous or strange.

With a focus on unusual grape varietals that result in remarkable flavored wines, Ripken Vineyards & Winery appeals to wine enthusiasts who like an adventurous lifestyle.

They have the motto “No Boring Wines!” They produce wines with conviction.

They choose a less beaten path. Wine drinkers who want to experience the pleasures of Marsanne, Roussanne, Viognier, Malbec, Petite Sirah, Carmine, Petit Verdot, Alicante Bouschet, Tempranillo, Graciano, Souzao, Touriga National, Grenace, Mourvedre, Montepulciano, Barbera, Dolcetto, or Corvina as blends or varietal wines will find their wines appealing.

They use traditional methods including soft crushing, barrel fermenting white wines, choosing yeasts, hand punchdown, less stirring, lengthy barrel age, gentle crushing, and bottle aging to produce very small batches of various wines, typically under 100 cases.

“These wines were made one bucket, one barrel, and one bottle at a time,” is their rallying cry.

Maximizing tastes, decreased but adequate irrigation or non-irrigation, sunlight to the cluster, complete ripeness for flavor, moderate size crops, adequate soil fertility, and organic matter in soils are all important factors in their grape cultivation. All of this attention to detail results in full-flavored, well-mineralized wines that are balanced and delightful when they are finished.

They are the 60th winery in Lodi. Despite being third generation wine grape growers since 1950, they only harvested their first vintage in 2003. They also grow their own rootstock and have spent forty years collecting various wine varietal clones and selections. The entire family participates.

ONE WAY WINERY

We’ve always wanted to live out in the country. So when the chance to buy a vintage farmhouse with 18 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon in the Lodi Appellation came up in 2001, we leaped at it. We added Pinot Grigio as a new variety in 2004. That marked MY Green Vineyards, LLC’s inception.

For many years, we produced wine to drink at home with loved ones and friends. We have always believed that the setting would become a fantastic winery and tasting facility ever since we originally bought the land. So, in 2009, we submitted an application for a winery license and started making our first vintage. We achieved this through a proprietorship swap with Estate Crush in Lodi. This squad is still utilized by us for our wine producing processes
